Golden is about 28.4 miles south-west of our Brighton home base - a routine drive for us, and one we make regularly. Quote visits and scheduled work both fit our normal week here.
Golden is home to about 20,399 people, and Golden sits in Jefferson County. Golden sits at the base of the foothills on the west edge of the metro, at about 5,670 feet. On sloped lots, water heads for whatever is downhill, which makes it a grading and retaining question before it is a concrete question: a patio or driveway has to move water somewhere deliberate, and a wall holding a cut bank has to stay put through a wet spring.
Below is what Golden's own offices and water provider publish about permits, watering and backflow testing for the kind of work we do, checked October 13, 2026, with a link to each source.

All work in Golden's right-of-way requires a Right of Way permit from Public Works, applied for through the City's online portal; contractors must be registered with the City and show general liability insurance. Concrete pours must be inspected by a Public Works inspector scheduled at least one business day ahead, and a traffic control plan is required for any occupancy of streets, sidewalks, trails or alleys.

Golden's Required Building Permits Guide lists patio and porch covers as needing a permit and landscaping as not needing one; it does not address on-grade patios, driveways or other flatwork and directs residents to the Building Division for anything unclear.

Golden requires a permit, with engineering, for retaining or landscape walls (individually or in combination) over 4 feet tall measured from the bottom of the footing. Walls 4 feet or less are exempt unless they support a surcharge or are on a corner lot or in a historic district.

Watering rules change with drought stages and seasons. These are the rules the water provider published as of October 13, 2026; check the linked page before you seed, sod or change a sprinkler schedule.
Golden has been in Stage 1 drought since May 1, 2026; its Amended Stage 1 Drought Order (effective July 19, 2026, in force until Oct. 31, 2026 unless rescinded earlier) limits lawns, trees, shrubs and perennials to two irrigation events per Sunday-Saturday week per property, on days the customer chooses, between 6 p.m. and 10 a.m., and bans all outdoor irrigation, including hand and drip watering, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Potted plants and food gardens may be hand-watered any day within the 6 p.m.-10 a.m. window, and power washing hardscapes and hand-washing vehicles at home are prohibited.

Golden's Amended Stage 1 order grants no exceptions for new sod, turfgrass installation, native plantings or turf establishment watering; new plantings stay on the two-events-per-week limit and the 6 p.m.-10 a.m. window. The temporary irrigation exemptions Golden normally offers for new seed, sod, native gardens, trees and shrubs are not available during declared drought stages.

Golden requires backflow prevention on irrigation connections (among other connections), and assemblies must be tested annually by a certified backflow tester with reports emailed to backflow@cityofgolden.net; failing to test can lead to termination of service.

Concrete driveways, walkways, patios and repairs (concrete), new lawns and lawn repairs (sod installation), sprinkler repair and winterization (sprinkler repair), plus xeriscape and retaining walls, kitchen, bath and basement remodeling, flooring and interior painting. A job that spans more than one of those is still one crew and one point of contact.
Yes. Golden is about 28.4 miles south-west of our home base in Brighton, a routine drive we make regularly. Golden sits in Jefferson County, and the permit question for your specific job gets answered before work starts, not after.
At about 5,670 feet, the Front Range gives a reasonably long season for concrete and landscape work, though the shoulder months swing hard. Interior work - remodeling, flooring, painting - runs year round, and winter is usually the easiest time to get it scheduled.
We work throughout these neighbouring communities as well: Wheat Ridge (5.2 mi), Lakewood (6.5 mi), Arvada (7.1 mi). The full list is on our service area page.
