Lyons is about 30.3 miles north-west of our Brighton home base - a routine drive for us, and one we make regularly. Quote visits and scheduled work both fit our normal week here.
Lyons is a community of roughly 2,209 residents, and Lyons sits in Boulder County. Lyons sits where St. Vrain Creek comes out of the foothills, north of Boulder, at about 5,370 feet. On sloped lots, water heads for whatever is downhill, which makes it a grading and retaining question before it is a concrete question: a patio or driveway has to move water somewhere deliberate, and a wall holding a cut bank has to stay put through a wet spring.
Below is what Lyons's own offices and water provider publish about permits, watering and backflow testing for the kind of work we do, checked October 13, 2026, with a link to each source.
Town of Lyons Building Department (contracted to SAFEbuilt). Permits are filed through Community Core, and a $50 Town of Lyons contractor license is required to pull one. The 2024 ICC codes took effect July 1, 2026.

Street cuts and access work in the Town right-of-way need a Town of Lyons Right of Way Permit ($100) with a traffic control plan, approved by the Director of Utilities and Engineering. Work must follow the Town Engineer's encroachment requirements, a bond may be held until the Town Engineer inspects it, and public improvements carry a one-year guarantee.

Lyons' 2026 residential code amendments (LMC 18-3-40, Ord. 1211) delete the IRC permit exemption for sidewalks and driveways, along with the fence exemption, so that work is no longer listed as permit-exempt. Check with the Building Department before pouring.

Lyons' 2026 amendments don't change the IRC retaining-wall exemption: walls no more than 4 feet tall, measured from the bottom of the footing to the top of the wall, are exempt unless they support a surcharge. Taller or surcharged walls need a permit.

Watering rules change with drought stages and seasons. These are the rules the water provider published as of October 13, 2026; check the linked page before you seed, sod or change a sprinkler schedule.

The Town posts voluntary guidelines rather than a mandatory schedule: water lawns deeply twice a week in the early morning, and don't water between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Town guidance says to avoid installing landscaping during the hottest months, especially in dry years, and to use drought-resistant turf, xeric plants and drip irrigation where possible.

A backflow preventer on a commercial or multi-family connection must be tested every year by a State-certified tester (LMC 13-6-60). Passing results go to the Utilities Director or Town Hall by July 15, and late reports can bring fines or water disconnection (LMC 13-6-100).

Concrete driveways, walkways, patios and repairs (concrete), new lawns and lawn repairs (sod installation), sprinkler repair and winterization (sprinkler repair), plus xeriscape and retaining walls, kitchen, bath and basement remodeling, flooring and interior painting. A job that spans more than one of those is still one crew and one point of contact.
Yes. Lyons is about 30.3 miles north-west of our home base in Brighton, a routine drive we make regularly. Lyons sits in Boulder County, and the permit question for your specific job gets answered before work starts, not after.
At about 5,370 feet, the Front Range gives a reasonably long season for concrete and landscape work, though the shoulder months swing hard. Interior work - remodeling, flooring, painting - runs year round, and winter is usually the easiest time to get it scheduled.
We work throughout these neighbouring communities as well: Longmont (9.6 mi), Jamestown (10.1 mi), Berthoud (11.9 mi). The full list is on our service area page.
